4 Essential Oils To Help You Sleep

Lavender

Lavender is a popular essential oil for relaxation and sleep aid. It doesn’t only help you fall asleep, but studies have shown that lavender oil also improves the quality of the sleep you get. Offering calm, soothing, and balancing properties that help to reduce stress, enhance sleep quality, stabilise mood, and lower blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate — lavender oil is great for setting your body up for a deep and restful night of sleep.

Methods: Lavender can be used in many ways to help you rest at night, one of which includes a pillow spray — mix 10-20 drops of lavender and 2 cups of water. Simply mist the spray lightly over your pillow before you go to bed. You can also use lavender oil in an essential oil diffuser — begin diffusing an hour or so before you go to sleep. Another option is to rub a few drops of oil on your wrists, feet, or temples.

With additional stress-relieving properties, chamomile is perfect for soothing anger, irritability, tension, and agitation that may have built up after a long day.

Frankincense has many aromatherapeutic benefits that make it one of the most valuable essential oils. As a sleep aid, frankincense helps relieve stress, lower the body’s anxiety levels, and promote relaxation. Studies show that it also helps stimulate the nervous system and open breathing passages, allowing your body to reach its ideal temperature for sleeping.

Methods: you can add frankincense to a steaming bowl of water for a mini facial before bed — this is great for your skin and lungs. Or, you can rub a few drops of the oil into your hand and inhale before going to sleep.
